NOTE: If you own a vehicle, you'll also need to change your address on your certificate of title and registration. See the “NC Vehicle Title and Registration Address Change" section below.

Online

You can use the online service if:

  • Your NC driver's license has not been suspended.
  • You do not have an outstanding debt with the NC DMV.
  • Your photo is on file with the NC DMV.
  • Your SSN or legal presence documents are on file with the NC DMV.

  • Date of birth.
  • E-mail address.
  • Credit or debit card information to pay the $10 fee.
  • You will receive your updated card by mail.

If you are not eligible for an online address change with the NC DMV, you must change your address in person.

To change your address on your NC driver's license or ID card in person, visit your local NC Division of Motor Vehicles office and bring:

  • Your current NC driver's license or identification card.

  • NC Vehicle Title & Registration Address Change

When you move within North Carolina, you must change your address on your NC vehicle title and registration records within 30 days.

You can change your address on your vehicle records by mail or in person. You cannot change your address online.

You must either take a completed Notice of Change of Address form (MVR-24A) and your NC driver's license to your local NC DMV office in person, or mail the form to:

    Division of Motor Vehicles
    3148 Mail Service Center
